Waste Wise

Today, we had the Drama4 kids sponsored by Auckland City Council performing a Waste Wise message.
We learnt:
  • reuse, reduce, recyle
  • food scraps should go into the compost and it becomes a worm farm but never citrus skin/peel and meat.
  • It is better to buy one big box of food than little ones like cereals.
Miss Lowans mentioned that she has noticed the amount of little food packets in our lunches.  Something to think about.  IF we use containers we can reuse them or instead of buying museli bars, make them.

In Room 22 we are using plastic drink bottles and making fish mobiles as art.  Watch this space for our finished products.

The students of Room 22 enjoyed the Waste Wise show.  Thanks Drama4kids and Auckland City Council.

Year 6 Camp By JWM

Oh yeah I am gonna be so ready for this camp.  I can't wait to tell you kids about camp.  OK it started off going on the bus then we took a ferry to Kawau Island.  We are so lucky that were on KAWAU ISLAND!! we had to carry loads of bags from the ferry.

The people I slept with was Tom,Vinny,Josh and Joshua  it was so funny sleeping with them.  Once they were kinda of annoying because they keep talking when its time to sleep I couldn't get any rest.

Our first activity was Kayaking we Kayaked 1km.  We had a choice of going to Stingray Bay or Survivor Island and went to Stingray Bay we didn't see any Stingrays though.  But it was a shot anyway.  So we head back to Kawau Island.  Then we had lunch  after that.

The best activity was  Sailing.  Sailing was so fun when you go solo sailing by you self but usually you do sailing with two people but i was lucky I got to do both.
If you haven't done sailing you have to do its is really fun trust me.

Year 6 camp by S.M

My most enjoyable thing at camp was the Burma trail. It was very dark and i couldn't see a thing . the most funny thing was that the parents started scaring us.And I heard screaming and shouting. We had to hold hands one hand one somebody and one hand on the rope.Me and josh started scaring people too!

Sailing Camp Benzon E.P

It was our turn to go sailing.  We sprinted over to Peter and got my life jacket and asked Steve (Frasers dad) if he could buckle me in.  We got choose our partners I got to Daniel before Mark did.  Peter showd us how to use the tiller and the sail.  Finally we got on the water.  I felt scared about going on the sailing boat because I thought we were going to capsize.

My Anzac Letter

Dear Caitlyn

How are our friends? Have they changed much? I sleep in trenches.  They look like a dirty rubbish bin.  It smells like rubbish in the dump. The water tastes very yuck. The sound of bombs inside and out side.  Training camp was going good. We learned about how to shoot guns.  Heaps of people are getting hurt and shot.  Our enemy shot guns explosives at us but I didn't get hurt.  I have to carry lots of  water 2 miles away from the trenches. We travelled from Egypt to Gallipoli.  It was a long long way.  Lots of soldiers are getting very sick from eating spoilt food.
 Your brother ...

Armies at war firing AK47s at the Turks, suffering gory bodies lying there, sad families crying at home.
Not many soldiers still alive, nurses working hard saving peoples lives.
Zipping bullets at the pointless war, soldiers ANZACs dying for their country, innocent lives are lost.
Acid is murdering the awesome soldiers who fought for us.
Camp would be set up at different places around Gallipolli.

In Flanders Field by John McCrae E.W

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below

We are the Dead.Short days ago
We lived,  felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
         In Flanders fields

Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If you break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
           In Flanders fields

Camp Bentzon mdk

On Monday morning, I was excited because instead of going to school I was going to Kawau Island!  My sister had to go to school and think about maths and English and I got to go on camp.  "Yay"!

We caught the bus at 7:30 and headed off to Sandspit.  We arrived at Sandspit we caught the ferry to Camp Bentzon.  On the ferry we were all extremely excited and were being quite noisy.

After half an hour (30 minutes) we arrived at North Cove AKA-Camp Bentzon.  We got settled in, then we went on a long walk to Vivian Bay.  At Vivian Bay we had a super swim.  When we got back to where we were staying, I was really exhuasted.

On Tuesday my group did the Confidence course.  I climbed and swung like a monkey.  I gave everything a go.  It was really cool.

Next my group went Orienteering!  For Orienteering we had to find letters using a cool compass.  My partners Cassie, Selina and I went up Killer Hill when we weren't supposed to.

The last activity was kayaking. We kayaked to Survivor Island and back which was awesome.  I was
leading the way on the way back but then I stopped to have a rest and fell behind.

Camp is great!!!

Year 6 Camp recount E.W.6

On the 23 of April we went to the best camp ever.  It was called Camp Bentzon.  But to get there we needed to go on a bus for 2 and a half hours to to arrive at Sandspit. Then get on a big ferry.

Later that day we arrived at Camp Bentzon. Then we meet Erin and Peter. After we met Erin and Peter, Erin took all of us on a bush walk.

When we got back we had to have a 2 minute shower and then ate dinner.

After we finished dinner it was time for supper and I was so full. A few minutes later we had down time and we could do reading or writing in our camp books.

On Tuesday we found what groups we were in. I am in Group 1 we did ......... Sailing that was not fun because it was so hard,we also did the Confidence Course which was so much fun because I love to climb up tall things. Then we did orienteering that was not cool because it was so hard to find the letters.

On Wedensday we went to Mansion House and the Copper Mine.We got to play on the rope that was so exciting. We had to walk there which took a long time but it was worth it .
The most interesting things was that George Gray lived in Mansion House and owned the Copper Mine.

But on Thursday ..........we did kayaking that the most best things that I did. Then we did rafl building but we sank. Then we made bivouacs, but the water came in.

On Friday we all needed to pack up and go home.

After 3 and a half hours we got to school then..........................
THEN HOME SWEET HOME!!!!!!!!!!!BED TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My ANZAC letter rvm

Dear Mom,Dad and Sister

I was in training camp first and I hade to learn how to survive in trenches, how to sneak and hide from my enemy and how to hit my target.  I was in Egypt at training camp, then I went to the Gallipoli for the real battle.  I lived in trenches that looked like a underground cave that smelled disgusting.  We had to collect water two miles away.

When I first encounted an enemy he scraped me on the arm with a bullet but I killed him. I needed medical attention.  They told me I will be fine.

I went on a boat to bomb the enemy from sea.when we joined up with our allies. We put together a group to attack the enemy.

I miss you and want to go home but I have to stay here and help but I will come home.

Your son/brother
