Week One Term Four

Our first week back for the last term has finished.  This week we have begun writing picture book stories and will publish them eventually on our blog.  Watch this space!!.  We need to remember Monday is a holiday (Labour Day), and that on Tuesday we need to bring back our homework all completed.  Miss Lowans says no exc.uses - you have an extra day to do it all.  This afternoon we practised our high jumping.  It was fun.  We all have a chapter book to read for a chapter book study.  Everyone is enjoying their  book.  Many are reading Roald Dahl stories like James and the Giant Peach, Danny, Champion of the World, The BFG, Boy - Tales of childhood and Goin Solo.  We have decided we like Roald Dahl stories.

Shake Out

Today at 9.26 we took part in the Shake Out earthquake drill with the rest of NZ.

Afterwards we had a discussion about how earthquakes worked, and lots of what if questions like ...What if you are in the toilet?  What if you are in the library? What if mum is in labour having a baby?
Miss Lowans tried her best to answer these questions so that we were not worried.

Miss Lowans has just read us the story of Louis Braille, the blind boy who invented the raised dot system so that books could be read by blind people.
LT liked this story because he liked learning about a famous person.  KD liked the story because she liked learning about blindness and braille.  JWM liked it because he liked hearing about how Louis Braille helped others.  DL - the book has the raised alphabet on the back so it makes the book interesting.  RVDM - learnt that blind people can learn to do things to like the piano.  EW liked how it told Louis Braille's story from birth to death.

Father's Day Poems

Dear Dad
I love him
When he goes on the trampoline with me
When he tickles me
When he talks to me about my sister and brother to tell me how they are doing
When he comes and sees me
When he taught me how to ride a bike
When he laughs at silly things
When he plays with my brother and his cars
I love you

Korean Student visit

I made two new friends. They were called Alex and Sam. I will miss them and remember how funny they were. RVDM

The Production

It was really fun acting in the production. I was a monkey and enjoyed it. My favourite part was the admiral jumping of the docks. RVDM

This Friday is Daffodil Day

Reminder to students that we are selling daffodils for Daffodil Day today and tomorrow because we have the Father's Day breakfast on Friday morning.  We are anticipating a big crowd.  In class we have a coin trail.  Remember to bring some coins to help raise money for the Cancer Society.

WOW - From Mr Hayward

WOW – last night I saw your production for the first time and I was blown away (and that had nothing to do with the curry beans either).  It was without a doubt the best night of entertainment I’ve had for a long time!  The way you performed and worked together as a team was incredible and I would not have thought I was watching a bunch of primary school students.  All the hard work was so worth it – and I just think it was a shame that not every parent in the school got to see and enjoy it.  Make sure you thank your teacher for all their input and effort because without them you would not have been able to shine as brightly as you did.  I was very proud of the students I have taught in the past; as I’m sure many of the other junior teachers were too!  I hope you learnt a huge amount about the privilege of performing and team work, and that you will take any opportunities you get in your future to do things like this again.

Awesome work everyone and thanks again for a great night.

Mr Hayward  =)

The Alphabet in today's language

Cyber Safety

Hector and his friends teach us about cyber safety which is really important.  You can watch this with mum and dad and talk about what you see together.

Pirates of the Curry Bean

The Senior Syndicate has been working very hard to practise for our Production of The Pirates of the Curry Bean.   We have a wonderful, funny script written by Craig Hawes, fantastic costumes and scenery.  We are amazed by all the talent in our actors and actresses.

WELL DONE EVERYBODY.
